Our November cover star Thuso Mbedu has landed a history-making lead role in an international series titled The Underground Railroad. The star will make history as the first South African actress to lead an American television series. The series is an adaptation of the Colson Whitehead’s Pulitzer Prize–winning novel of the same name set to be directed by the award-winning Barry Jenkins.
According to Variety, the series “chronicles young Cora’s journey as she makes a desperate bid for freedom in the antebellum South. After escaping her Georgia plantation for the rumored Underground Railroad, Cora discovers no mere metaphor, but an actual railroad full of engineers and conductors, and a secret network of tracks and tunnels beneath the Southern soil.” The hour-long episodes in the series will premiere on Amazon.
