Tyra Banks came out of retirement to grace the cover of this year’s Sports Illustrated Swimsuit issue. This comes 23 years after the star graced the cover in 1997 and made history as the first black woman to have a solo cover in the magazine’s history. Her first cover was in 1996 when she was featured alongside model Valeria Mazza.
Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Editor MJ Day shared about Tyra, “Since Tyra’s first cover in 1996, she’s transformed herself into nothing less than a mogul, a cultural force and a supernova of inspiration and empowerment. She’s kind of the Swimsuit Issue ethos come to life, everything we know this franchise can be.”
Tyra shared the cover on her social media sharing in part; ” My first one was 23 years ago; how crazy is that. I’m like damn — I’m 45, dog!”
