Issa Rae owned her success acceptance speech at the 2019 Women In Film Gala in Los Angeles. The star was honoured with the first-ever Emerging Entrepreneur Award and in true Issa form, her speech had the room in a fit of laughter.
Issa kicked off her speech by explaining how women often downplay their success. She said in part; “As women we tend to downplay ourselves, to dim our light, to be humble. I grew up as a huge hip hop fan, and none of my favorite artists are humble.”
She joked; “I’m closing all doors behind me, so if you didn’t make it in, oops, your bad.”
After many laughs and patting herself on the back, she closed the speech with;
“Entrepreneur till I die; I deserve this. Bye.”
