Award-winning actress Viola Davis gave a moving speech about leadership at this year’s Hollywood Reporter Women in Entertainment awards. The star received the Sherry Lansing Leadership event which is given annually to a woman who is a trailblazer and philanthropic leader in her industry.
During her acceptance speech, Viola expressed that she didn’t consider herself to be a leader, but considered Martin Luther King Jr instead. She said in part, “What is in my heart is I cannot lead with bull****. I cannot lead with lying. I cannot lead with the lying about what the road is out there.” She says this sparked the idea for her production company, JuVee Productions, to create stories for women of colour.
