A Happy Surprise from SPAR

You know it’s true what they say, if you don’t try you’ll never know. Kholiswa Ntalavane took a chance by entering our SPAR competition <> and to her surprise, she won. Kholiswa says the first thing she’ll buy with her R5000 voucher is her guilty pleasure… vanilla ice-cream as it’s perfect for this warm weather. Beans and beef stew

Ingredients
  • 2 tablespoons (30ml) SPAR Sunflower Oil
  • 1kg beef, cubed
  • 1 SPAR Freshline Onion, chopped
  • 2 garlic cloves, minced
  • 2 tablespoons SPAR Tomato Paste
  • 2 SPAR Beef Stock Cubes
  • 2 cups (500ml) water
  • 1 large SPAR Freshline Sweet Potato, cubed
  • 2 large SPAR Freshline Butternut, cut into thick cubes
  • 1 can (400g) SPAR Baked Beans or 2 Cups (500g) of SPAR Red Speckled Sugar Beans (Boiled until soft)
  • 4 tablespoons SPAR Brown Onion Soup
Instructions
  1. Heat oil in a large saucepan and brown meat for 2–3 minutes on each side; remove from the pan.
  2. Fry onions and garlic until soft in the same pan.
  3. Add the meat, tomato paste, stock cubes and water. Cover with a lid and cook for 1 hour 20 minutes.
  4. Add vegetables and beans.
  5. Mix water and soup together, add to the stew and cook for a further 5–10 minutes.
  6. Serve with SPAR Parboiled Rice.
