Albany to launch a FRESH new culinary star at the Joburg Good Food and Wine Show
A new look Good Food and Wine show arrives in Joburg on the 29th of July. Highlights include Sherwyn Weaich’s appearance at the Albany Bakeries stand and the Baking Theatre. The Gourmet Bushie will be supported by fast rising culinary talent, Andiswa Mthethwa.
Joburg will open its winter arms to the Good Food and Wine Show this July. The big news is that Africa’s favourite food event has been revitalised – a FRESH theme will run through the event, creating a platform from which chefs and foodies can explore the worldwide drive to grow local and eat fresh. Visitors will be tasting, seeing, smelling, feeling and hearing a huge range of new experiences, all designed to refresh their view of good food, wine and the world around.
The celebrity chef line up features a host of local and international stars, including George Calombaris, Matt Moran, Siba Mtongana, Jenny Morris, Sarah Graham, Neill Anthony, and Sherwyn Weaich, amongst others.
As usual, the Baking Theatre, sponsored by Albany Bakeries, will be a big highlight. It will host a range of activities, including a series of My Kitchen appearances from Executive Chef, Braai Master and television host Sherwyn Weaich and his much loved Gourmet Bushie brand. Weaich will be supported by a new face on the scene, Andiswa Mthethwa, brought to the event by Albany.
“The Baking Theatre focuses on food in the context of family and friends,” says Thabile Gwiji, Brand Manager, Albany Bakeries. “Albany has always looked for ways to make the challenge of running a family kitchen easier and more exciting for moms and family chefs. The Baking Theatre allows us to do just that. It’s going to be particularly exciting this year, because Sherwyn will be assisted by Andiswa.
The Gourmet Bushie is a popular and lifestyle reality cooking brand born following a string of high profile appearances from Sherwyn Weaich on shows such as Master Chef and Ultimate Braai Master, among many others.
“The Gourmet Bushie brand is a perfect fit for Albany,” says Gwiji. “The essential idea for Albany at the Good Food and Wine show is to create amazing experiences through food, and there is no one in the country who understands South African food and South African families like Sherwyn. With Andiswa beside him, the sky really is the limit. We can’t wait to see what they’ll get up to. I’m sure Andiswa will bring a own unique style and approach to the experience.”
Andiswa Mthethwa is a 23 year old chef, born and bred in Soweto. She studied culinary arts at the International Hotel school, after learning the basics from her mom in the family kitchen. She describes herself as an ‘all rounder’ with a passion for pastry. Her dream is to study pastry in Paris, and the chocolate arts in Switzerland.
In addition to Baking Theatre appearances, Weaich and Mthethwa will entertain visitors at the Albany Bakeries stand, where they will demonstrate how to create dishes that keep the family fuller for longer. Highlights include Chicken Piccata with Albany Bread Salad, Albany French Toast with an Ameretto Crème, Toast with Honey, Mascarpone Cream Cheese and Nutella, and Albany Banana and Dulce-leche Bread Pudding. Visitors to the Albany Bakeries stand will get to nibble on a range of tasty samples, and also stand in line to win an Albany Hamper at any time. In addition, Albany’s innovative recipe cards will allow moms and other family chefs to take their new culinary discoveries straight back home, and into the kitchen.
“The experiences at the Baking Theatre and the Albany Bakeries stand will all be very interactive. Members of the public will be able to spend time with some of the most talented young chefs in the country” concludes Gwiji. “It’s is a fantastic opportunity for South African families to get together and have fun, to experience new tastes, flavours and ideas, and to take a whole lot of FRESH innovation back home with them!”
