TikToks with amazing #LemonCoffee collectively gathered millions of views with the “before and after” photos with shots of someone squeezing a lemon into their morning coffee.
You may have heard that lemon water can help you lose weight.
“There’s nothing magic about lemon — it’s about staying hydrated by drinking water, and the lemon just adds flavor,” says Dr Alexandra Sowa, MD, a metabolic health physician, clinical professor of medicine at NYU School of Medicine and founder of SoWell Health.
“There are some complex biochemical processes behind it, but the most basic element is that drinking water keeps you full. We get these hunger signals to our brain that are often really thirst signals, but your body knows that if it tells you to eat something, in the process of eating, you’ll generally consume water. By just staying hydrated, you can generally quell some of those signals,” said Alexandra.
According to experts, If you have been suffering from heartburn and have a sensitive stomach the extra acid will not do your digestive system any favour.
“All the acid coffee and acidic lemon juice will just destroy your tooth enamel” adds, Philadelphia-based weight loss physician Charlie Seltzer, MD.

According to TikTok user @happyandhealtholivia, “Chia seeds expand in your stomach and form a thick gel, reducing your appetite and increasing feelings of fullness, which can help you stay in a calorie deficit.”

However, having too much of something can cause a lot of complications.Registered dietitian Beth Czerwony, RD warns not to go overboard with the chia seed water. While it’s fine to do every once in a while, like to fend off that late-day urge to snack, it shouldn’t be seen as a key method for weight loss.
Beth adds,“If you’re eating a lot of fiber and not drinking enough fluid along with it, the chia seeds will start to absorb the fluid in your gut and cause you to have hard stool.”
