The OBE is a highly esteemed British honour that is granted exclusively by the king to exceptional citizens and non-citizens in various fields, including business, science, and the arts.
It is a recognition that signifies the utmost level of excellence and is reserved only for those who have demonstrated an unwavering commitment to their craft.
Speaking to news publication SowetanLive he said: “I cannot express how blessed and humbled I feel right now.
“I have worked with a lot of British actors, both in theatre and movies, who always had this OBE title. I am happy that at least I get to be seen as a South African who should be honoured.”
Throughout his career, John has been recognized for his valuable contributions.
In 2006, he was awarded an honorary doctorate by the University of Cape Town, and later in 2013, he received another from Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University, where he was appointed an honorary Doctor of Philosophy.
