First, the world saw Musa Motha make history by receiving a Group Golden Buzzer on Britain’s Got Talent. Now, talented act Mzansi Youth Choir scored their own Golden Buzzer on America’s Got Talent, (AGT) leaving show judge Simon Cowell in tears.
The group performed a song that hit home for many of the judges.
They chose the song It’s Ok by former AGT contestant Jane Marczewski, professionally known as Nightbirde.
Nightbirde, who passed away at age 31 in 2022 after a battle with breast cancer, auditioned for the international talent show in 2021. Due to her illness, she had to pull out of the competition. She, too, performed her original song It’s Ok and received a Golden Buzzer.
The Mzansi Youth Choir had previously recorded a cover of the song in 2021 and received a shoutout from the late singer and songwriter.
She said, “Thank you so much Mzansi Youth Choir in South Africa for the beautiful tribute. I was holding back tears as I listened. How moving, and what an honour!”
More tears were shed when the group performed the song on the international stage.
A teary-eyed Simon said,” This brought back so many memories for me… I know how much this would have meant to her [Nightbirde].”
He continued, “Right until the end, she was so passionate about sharing her music. This has gone all over the world, and you come back here with the most amazing tribute. It was just breathtaking.”
There was no other choice than to award the group the Golden Buzzer after hearing the chants of the audience.
“This is for Jane,” said Simon, as he, the other judges and host Terry Crews placed their hands on the buzzer, ready to press it and change the lives of the talented group forever.
