The late great Kiernan “AKA” Forbes was honoured with two posthumous awards at this year’s South African Music Awards (SAMAs29).
The event took place at the SunBet Arena in Pretoria on Saturday evening.
On the night, AKA was honoured with the awards in the category of Best Collaboration with Nasty C for their song Lemons (Lemonade), as well as Male Artist of the Year for his album Mass Country.

The awards were accepted by his parents Lynn and Tony Forbes.
In her acceptance speech, Lynn said that receiving the Male Artist of the Year was a special award as it was a full-circle moment for them as a family.
“In 2012 Kiernan won Best Male at the SAMA’s, and to stand here and accept this in his absence is just an incredible honour.”
Despite the tragedy of losing his life in February this year, AKA has been achieving lots of victories in 2023.
Earlier this year his family walked away with four awards which included the categories Artist of the Year, Best Collaboration, Best Hip-Hip Artist, and Best Male Artist at the 17th edition of the Metro FM awards.
Last month, the 35-year-old was also honoured with the International Global Visionary award at the BET Hip Hop Awards in Atlanta.
