Singer and songwriter Amanda Benedicta Antony, professionally known as Amanda Black, addressed the negativity that was strewn on social media about her appearance during one of her shows.
The backlash against Amanda started when she performed at the Maseru Jazz Festival. One festival attendee took to X (formerly Twitter) to share her experience of Amanda’s performance as well as a poorly-angled picture of what the singer wore.
The social media user captioned their post, “I paid R250 for a ticket and Amanda Black came like this last night ko Maseru Jazz Festival.”

Although many people jumped to the singer’s defence, others questioned Amanda’s outfit choice.
Sitting down with 947 radio host Mo Flava, Amanda noted that the “outcry” was that her hair was not combed.
The singer shared, “I don’t comb my hair, I don’t own a comb… For me, I feel like we have come very far from what we are actually here to do. We are now more concerned about how we look and how we do on red carpets.”
In response, Mo Flava said, “Ultimately, people need to take you as you are, and that’s the bottom line, as they have been. There are a lot of people who are not as vocal as the haters.”
Amanda then agreed, saying, “100%. There’s more love than hate.”
