In just seven weeks, South Africa will hold its most intense elections in the history of our young democracy, as the ruling party which has easily gotten the majority lead has many opposing parties, mostly formed by former party members who broke off the ruling party.
The African National Congress has been in government for the past 30 years, in between those years, ANC Mosiuoa Lekota and Mbhazima Shilowa broke off to form COPE, Julius Malema left and formed EFF, with the most recent being Jacob Zuma who form Umkhonto Wesizwe political party sing a neglected ANC wing that is made up of military veterans.
With the party’s next office term unclear for the upcoming elections, President Cyril Ramaphosa reassured the media in Rwanda on his recent visit that, the ANC is unshaken adding that regardless of everything happening in the party, he was certain they would win the elections.
He shared:
“What I can assure you is that the party that I lead, the African National Congress, is not going to lose its majority on the 29th of May. Many South Africans still love the African National Congress and indeed, I am brimming with confidence that we are going to do well in the elections, so watch this space, my friend.”
