South African Gqom queen, Babes Wodumo, has reportedly suffered another death in the family.
The Gqom star lost her husband Mandla “Mampintsha” Maphumulo in December and lost her mother-in-law weeks later.
The news come after the Wololo hitmaker reportedly recently pulled a “no-show” at three gigs, reports said.
Reports alleged that three event organiser have had to issue statements apologising to patrons after the singer missed performances at their establishments.
Estradini Lifestyle management alleged that Babes was paid R18 000 to perform on Saturday, January 28, reported The South African.
The establishment apologised to its patrons for Babes’ missed performance and asked ticket owners to hold on to their tickets until the next event, the report said.
“We kept our end of the bargain and paid her; we have attached proof of payment below. We apologise for the inconvenience. We kindly ask everyone who attended yesterday’s event to keep their tickets for our next event,” the statement reads.
The report said the owner of Second Half Bar ad Restaurant and Thami Vilakiz of Ora Lifestyle also expressed their disappointment, adding that “it is very risky to book Babes Wodumo these days…”
However, the singer’s management cited a death in the family as the reason for the musician’s no-show for the performances, reported TimesLIVE.
According to the Gqom star’s sister Nondumiso, the singer was not in the right state of mind after losing her uncle and pleaded with promoters and fans to give Babes time to mourn, the report said.
“I understand that the fans are furious but there are things also that you can’t just keep explaining. That’s why I told all of them that I’m requesting that we bury our uncle first because we are laying him to rest this Saturday, then once we’ve recovered we will deal with all of this and refunds next week,” the report quoted Nondumiso as saying.
