In an age where digital technology is increasing its footprint, getting into the entertainment scene has become somewhat easy to do, remaining at the top, however, requires a lot more hard work and creativity.
After spending several years in the music industry, one person who has managed to unlock the keys to ensuring longevity and gaining the favour of fans and the rest of the public alike is none other than the KwaZulu-Natal-based rapper Big Zulu. When the 39-year-old musician is not working on big hits or booked out for performances throughout the country, he is often seen giving back to those in need by creating charity drives or lending a helping hand wherever his assistance is needed.
These days Zulu, whose real name is Siyabonga Nene doesn’t only pride himself on his ability to smoothly transition through the rhymes and metaphors found in his lyrics, but has now also delved into his new genre called Ushuni.
With just days to go until the release of his brand new hip-hop album called Icala Lempumelelo, the Zulu recently shared more about why he thinks he has been so successful throughout the last seven years.
In a recent interview with Daily Sun he said: “My secret is always telling myself that I am not at the top and always remember where I am coming from and reminding myself that I am where I am because of the people.”
He adds that this outlook on life has been the driving force behind ensuring that he remains motivated.
“Once you start telling yourself, you have reached your limits, trust me, nothing will happen,” he adds.
However, he believes that by working hard people will support and respect you, and that by showing that same respect back, you are guaranteed to gain their favour resulting in continuous success.
Meanwhile, he is currently looking forward to the release of his new album, which will be dropped on Friday 11 April.
