It’s been nearly two weeks since a video showing global superstar – Black Coffee – finding his way to the front of a church started circulating the internet. At the time it was speculated that the 47-year-old had found his faith by committing his life to Christ, however, there was no certainty to the story.
Meanwhile, the DJ whose real name is Nkosinathi Maphumulo recently had a sit-down interview with Joburg-based radio station Kaya FM where he confirmed that the news was indeed true.
Speaking on the topic, the Drive hitmaker revealed that throughout his life he has always been focused on chasing the dreams that he had for himself but added that even though he excelled in reaching his aspirations and becoming the influential person he always wanted to become there was an area in his life that he was lacking.
He later turned to Kwaito legend and former member of the singing group TKzee Kabelo Mabalane and explained to him exactly how he felt. It was then that Kabelo, who is now a pastor, encouraged him with the scriptures. According to Black Coffee, all of this happened before he publically devoted his life to God as seen in the circulating video.
“What a beautiful, blessed man. He gave me a perspective of life and faith that I never knew existed.”
He later added that he received a call from Oskido, and asked him to join them, as Kabelo continued sharing the word.
“He asked if I was ready to accept Christ as my saviour, and I said no. I don’t want to be the person people are waiting for them to fall.
“He said, ‘What people miss about Jesus is He already forgave our sins. So, you’re allowed to walk and fall and walk again.’”

This was when he made the life decision and later made another public declaration of his new found faith by moving forward in a church service which was captured on video.
Later he explained that he was excited to see where this journey will take him.
