Singer and songwriter, Gemma Fassie received the attention from Grammy award winner Black Coffee.
In a video shared by Bongani Fassie which has since gone viral, the musician is seen singing Tamia’s Officially Missing You, as she showed off her incredible vocals on Twitter. Which made many who did not know the singer sit up and notice the young and talented musician.
The South African DJ Black Coffee along with SA rapper Gigi Lamayne were spotted in the comment section as they praised Gemma’s amazing vocals, giving her a co-sign for her interpretation of the song.

During an interview with SportScene as she is an ambassador for the retail chain, Gemma explained her relation with the late Brenda Fassie saying:
“The answer is actually, “Yes, I am.” She is an aunt of mine. Unfortunately, I never really got the opportunity to meet her as she’d already passed away when I was only about five or six years old. I remember seeing my Dad on TV with her but it only really clicked with me in the past year since I’ve started being involved in the music industry. One of my close friends told me to change my name to ‘Gemma Fassie’ because it would gain more traction, and that it could be my ‘Sasha Fierce’ moment by stepping into this new persona and making it my own,” she said.
In her aforementioned interview back in 2021 when she said that:
“One of my main goals this year is to explore ‘Gemma Fassie’ and stepping into who I am as an artist. It’s important for me to find my place within the industry. Another goal is to release a new tape with Retro Records. And lastly, I would love to perform on a massive stage in the near future.”
Gemma has been releasing music as an independent artist. Her first official single as a musician was back in 2020 with the single After Hours. Since then she has released a number of singles with the latest one being No Drama which was released officially in September 2022.
