TV presenter, radio and social media personality Bonang Matheba and actress, musician, and multimedia personality Thembi Seete recently had a sit-down talk on the L’Oreal Paris SA podcast, Talk Your Worth, reflecting on their journeys.
Starting by wishing each other a happy Women’s Month, the two media personalities immediately dived into the significance of the month. Bonang shared her gratitude for speaking to a woman who she grew up watching and who has taught her about herself and self-expression.
The inspiring conversation touched on their careers, family, womanhood and lessons of worth learnt in their own personal journeys.
Thembi said that she comes from a strong family and was raised by women who play an important role in her life, especially her mother who shared with her words of encouragement and affirmations such as to love yourself and learn about things you need to do as a woman.
Thembi also shared what carries her the most, “Thapelo” (prayer), and continues to say, “I pray Bonang.” She then recalled the late Brenda Fassie telling her that she was going to be a star, while Bonang jokingly added, “I would not sleep.”
Bonang later shares how she deals with pressures and expectations saying, “My mom, I love my mom, she taught me about my inner strength, building my own expectations and competing with myself.”
She further says that the industry has taught her great lessons, about protecting herself and getting to a point where your emotional intelligence is so high and strong that very little can distract you. “It’s a journey. You learn. Experiences teach you and when you know better, you do better.”
The ladies also encourage young women to get to understand what is important in life and remind us that we are talented and do not need to comprise anything to get ahead.
