Showmax Originals reality show Born into Fame star and DJ Arthur Junior ‘AJ’ Mafokate speaks on what life is like being the firstborn son of Kwaito legend Arthur Mafokate.
AJ, the oldest of his three siblings Owami, Kelello, and Onalenna features on the reality show with his sister Owami where they navigate life and fame alongside children of famous people within the industry while working for themselves. Despite having a famous parent, the young DJ told news publication, SundayWorld, that his parent’s success was overshadowing his.
He said, “You are a part of something bigger than you; you are born into something that is already established. And there are so many opportunities that come with it. Especially for someone in my industry.”
Speaking the above-mentioned source on his father’s legacy, AJ said that he felt the pressure to do the things his father did and do music, adding that, he was uncertain whether music was his passion or his father’s dream.
“I have not thought about that fully, about what my passion is. Because music is just a big part of my life. But if I were not a musician, I would probably be a businessman and an entrepreneur. I also have an interest in psychology and engineering. So it would be something along those lines,” he told the news publication.
Speaking to the streaming platform on his journey in the reality show, AJ states that reality TV forced him to introspect within himself, adding, “You go there with an idea of who you are and when you get there, who you are gets challenged and judged, so it makes you take a step back and look at yourself from different perspectives.”
