After tagging her toddler along to her Newzroom Afrika interview about her role in the upcoming film, A Scam Called Love, Brenda Ngxoli has unexpectedly sparked a conversation about the effects parenthood has on women’s careers.
Veteran actress Brenda Ngxoli’s life and career have seemingly taken a 180° turn after revealing the unfavourable nature of her relationship with her mother, which turned a sour moment into a mountain of opportunities as mzansi rallied together to support her. Since then, she has bagged several acting roles and interviews, giving Brenda the shine that the country has been advocating her to receive.
The actress has been open about being proud of her parenting journey with her daughter Sky since her birth in 2022. Recently, a clip of Brenda’s Newzroom Afrika interview has gone viral after fans couldn’t help but question whether alternative childcare plans could not have been made for Sky, who sat on her mother’s lap throughout the whole interview.
The clip quickly spread throughout social media platforms as some users condemned the actress for failing to make arrangements for someone to mind her daughter while she works. According to these users, this is a form of unprofessionalism that should not be excused in this industry as it would not be allowed in any other industry.

However, Brenda’s avengers were quick to rally behind the actress and cited that this was a mere example of the challenges and issues that professional women face in South Africa regularly. These users highlighted that women usually resort to such measures due to lack of support, both in their personal and professional lives. Furthermore, they highlight the fact that the channel had no issues with Brenda’s daughter being present on set, therefore, no one else should.
Other users emphasised the importance of remaining empathetic to people’s situations, citing Brenda’s recent personal drama that made headlines, resulting in numerous donations from the public.
User @WheelsNToys says: “A single mother who was fundraising because she has no familial support, is in trouble for bringing her infant with. What was she supposed to do?”
“People kwi comments coming for Brenda (with having her child there) and I’m confused because if the studio didn’t have an issue with it, why should people? Hai niyadina. Anyway, go watch #AScamCalledLove – it’s amazing 😌” replies user @u_Nombulelo
Lastly, some users believe that considering the smart woman that Brenda is, this stunt by the actress was no mistake, rather her own way of instigating the conversation of how workplaces could better support parents.
User @torikhumalo says: “She is subliminally instigating a conversation about mothers bringing their children to work and I love every inch of it.”
