Former Backstage actor Carlo Radebe is confident that his life will be restored to the state that it once was.
The well-known actor best known for his role as Duke in the popular 2000 soapie Backstage made headlines towards the end of last week after a close friend, Mauritz Neethling shared a Facebook post revealing that Carlo has found himself homeless after struggling to secure himself acting roles.
In the post, he wrote:
“As for many of us, Covid-19 was a really difficult time, especially for those working in the arts and film and television industry. Unfortunately for Carlo, he has not been able to get back on his feet and finds himself in a situation where he is struggling to sustain himself.”
Mauruitz further shared that the former Generations star was surviving on an R350 grant that comes from the government but that it was in no way enough for him to feed himself and get to casting agents for auditions.
Following this, many people who are familiar with Carlo and the work he produced throughout the last few years were shocked to discover what his life has come down to.
However, the veteran actor remains optimistic and is certain that things will change for the better.
After the news broke out, the Duma Ndlovu Actor’s Academy (DNA) got hold of the actor to offer assistance.
DNA was founded by Ndlovu the creator of shows like Muvhango, Uzalo and Imbewu: The Seed.

Taking to his own Facebook page, Carlo said that he is grateful for the support received from the public.
“What you have shown me over several days, since the release of my statement-guided by my friend Mauritz Neethling, rallied by his devotion to my well-being, has no words…”
He added: “I am looking forward to getting back on set and shooting. By God’s Grace, all will be well. I thank all the shout-outs and certain individuals who have galvanised on their platforms.”
