CAF nominee expresses frustration at Ronwen Williams win – ‘It’s not the end’

Following what was an eventful Monday evening in Morocco, it appears that not everyone is happy about Ronwen Williams’ gold collection at the CAF Awards.

While South Africans used the day to celebrate the Day of Reconciliation public holiday, Bafana Bafana star player, Ronwen Williams was busy collecting what belonged to him. This comes after the 32-year-old goalkeeper was awarded the CAF 2024 Interclub Player of the Year as well as the African Goalkeeper of the Year titles.

This came off the back of an outstanding season in which Ronwen was the star of the show for both club and country throughout the respective competitions he partook in.

His efforts have also seen him among the leading contenders in the run to winning the Yashin trophy at this year’s Ballon d’Or Awards in October but fell short to the Argentine goalkeeper, Emiliano Martinez.

While an overwhelmed Ronwen now had his moment and dedicated the awards to his support system, a fellow contender was not happy about the outcome.

Taking to Instagram, Egyptian player Ahmed Sayed Zizo, hinted that he might be disappointed with the outcome in the category of Interclub Player of the Year, after falling short to Ronwen.

He wrote: “It’s not the end, it’s just the start of a new challenge. Thanks for your support, we all know how it works in @caf_online, thanks for family, friends and supporters, love you all.”
