KwaZulu Natal based maskandi songwriter and singer Khuzani Mpungose has caused a stir in the social media after he announced that he is dropping a new CD.
While other people did not understand why the artist opted for a CD instead of adapting with the modern times of doing it digitally. Others were still supporting the idea of purchasing a CD, saying it makes sense to have a physical copy of your favourite project at home.
Taking to Instagram the music platform Slikour OnLife shared a post that allowed people to share their thoughts about the CD. They captioned their post:
“OnLifers, is there still space for CDs in the game today? What new album would you buy on CD? 🤔💭.”

Award-winning musician Cassper Nyovest also shared his thoughts and wrote, “I think the ship has sailed and there’s many reasons. The attention span of a young South African youth is not the same as an avid maskandi Fan. Our crowd can barely sit through a 35 min album without scrolling through their Instagram or getting into a twitter argument.”
He then added his opinion about the value of music and said, “the value of music and albums has gone down due to our microwave lifestyles and our overly opinionated culture. People don’t listen to the music just for listening anymore, they listen to comment. It’s also because they don’t spend money on the music therefore, they don’t value it.”
The musician concluded by saying, “before, you would only listen to guys who you have interest in, so much interest that you spent your money to check out their album. Now you can listen to it for free just to share opinion and be part of the conversation on release day/week cause that’s when it’s relevant. Then it fades.”
Many other social media users agreed with what Cassper said, they wrote:
“@casspernyovest big facts💯.”
“@casspernyovest facts!”
