The notion that South African hip-hop is dead is a thing of the past as the Mzansi hip-hop scene is buzzing with excitement left, right and centre. The new school kids are bringing their modern and fresh sound, while the older heads that paved the way are reaping the reward of their hard work as their music continues to spread.
Recently, hip-hop mogul, Ntokozo Mdluli, who famously goes by K.O shared via his social media that he would be honouring the 10th anniversary of his legendary debut studio album, Skhanda Republic, with a concert mzansi hip-hop is yet to see, which he has coined ‘K.O and the members’. The highly anticipated event is set to take place at Carfax, situated in Newtown, Johanessburg.
With hits such as Caracara, Skhanda Love and Mission Statement, Skhanda Republic is easily a project that has heavily influenced today’s music and artists. At a time when social media was not as prevalent, K.O. was one of the artists that dominated the music charts and has managed to consistently remain there with hits such as Too Much making waves currently.
In exciting news, Mr Cashtime has announced Cassper Nyovest as the first guest star that will be making an appearance at the highly anticipated concert via his Instagram and X (formerly Twitter).

True Mzansi hip-hop fans are unsurprised by K.O’s announcement as similarly to himself, Cassper Nyovest, who affectionately goes by Mufasa is a trailblazer in the South African hip-hop space and music industry at large. Not only has he consistently released chart-toppers for more than a decade, but his illustrious career is filled with momentous achievements, such as filling up the FNB Stadium, which is not a small feat, as no other local artist has done so.
Anticipation for the concert is surely only going to pick up from here as the Skhanda gawd will be revealing more guest stars to join the line-up.
