Charlize Theron says Afrikaans is “a dying language”

South African Born actress Charlize Theron made a huge remark concerning one of South Africa’s official languages which is spoken by over 8.4 million people across the globe. 

The actress appeared on Smartless podcast. While speaking to the hosts Sean Hayes, Jason Bateman, and Will Arnett, the actress joked that there is about 44 people who speaks Afrikaans.  

“There’s about 44 people still speaking it.”

She continued by saying: “ It’s definitely a dying language; it’s not a very helpful language,” she said in the interview.

The School for Good and Evil star also mentioned during her interview on the Smartless podcast  that she didn’t speak English until she was around 19 and only focused on learning the language when she left home.

“That’s why it was easy for me to drop the [South African] accent because I was really learning English from scratch,” she added.
