Durban born Naledi Aphiwe who sang in a classroom backed by her classmate received her big break when she was spotted by international superstar Chris Brown late last year ending up with a sample of her voice in the multi award singer’s song released in the new album 11:11.
Many international musicians seem to be loving the truly authentic South African sound in all its genres. The multi- award winning singer and dancer not only used the high school learner’s voice on his song Shooter but he also made sure to credit her.
The song that got Naledi fame and recognition speaks of a child who is sexually molested by her father, a struggle faced by many kids in the country.
The learner who is now an instant success has been doing a lot of interviews on radio and print.
In an interview with Tshisa Live, Naledi who is said to have received $3000 from the international muso, shared:
“First I want to buy a new phone so I can carry on making content and push my music. I also want to go to my mom’s grave to fix it for thanksgiving since we weren’t able to do things the way we wanted when we buried her last year.”
In the interview she also mentioned she’d love to work with South African artists such as the Qwabe Twins, Black Diamond and many more.
Metro FM also spoke to the young lady sharing a post captioned:
“From KZN to the W🎵rld. US singer @chrisbrownofficial liked the voice of Durban-born singer Naledi Aphiwe so much that he sampled AND credited her on his new song #Shooter. The timing couldn’t have been more important as it highlights child abuse ahead of 16 days of Activism of no violence against women and children.”
