Springbok and DHL Stormers rugby player Damian Willemse’s sexuality has been the subject of many people’s conversations in recent weeks.
The 26-year-old has been on holiday enjoying a well-deserved break away from the game after undergoing a finger surgery, following an injury in the Stormer’s match against the Irish team, Connacht in the United Rugby Championship (URC).
Following a series of recent posts and pictures on his Instagram stories, fans have been more interested in wanting answers on the purpose behind his brightly coloured toe and fingernails.
Many believed that these were hints of the possibility that he might be gay.
“Is my favourite rugby player gay?” asked one user.
Meanwhile, another added: “Brah you not helping the allegations.”

Others made reference to his famous quote following the Springboks victory at the 2023 Rugby World Cup, claiming that they now know what he meant when he said, “Hulle weet nie wat ons weet nie (They don’t know what we know).”
While Damian has neither confirmed nor denied the rumours, others felt that his latest fashion sense is purely an outward expression of creativity. He is further linked to be dating model Zoe Doyle who has been spotted in many of his social media posts in recent months including his latest trip to Europe.

Meanwhile, this is just the second time the young rugby player has been put under the magnifying glass because of his sexuality. The first was earlier this year when he posted a picture of himself wearing a see-through outfit on a night out with friends.
Despite the comments, Damian appears unfazed by the ongoing public speculation, only responding to those who came to his defence in the comments.
One person wrote: “Good to see celebrities or public figures breaking stigmas and being comfortable in their masculinity! You don’t need to be gay to paint your nails.”
