Fans of the popular American soapie Days of Our Lives have expressed their shock concerning the news that veteran actor Drake Hogestyn, best known for his portrayal as John Black, has passed away.
The news was reported by several American publications including the entertainment magazine, People.
The above-mentioned source revealed that Drake passed away Saturday, a day before what would have been his 71st Birthday. It is reported that he died of pancreatic cancer.

Drake has long been a fan favourite when it comes to the South African audience, this after he played John Black for 38 years becoming synonymous with the soapie.
Taking to X (formerly Twitter) the production team of the soapie confirmed the news, expressing their heartfelt condolences to his family.
“He was thrown the curve ball of his life when he was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer, but he faced the challenge with incredible strength and determination.”
“He was the most amazing husband, father, papa, and actor. He loved performing for the Days audience and sharing the stage with the greatest cast, crew, and production team in the business,” their statement read.
Others meanwhile entered the comment section to share messages of support and well wishes to his family.
