While many people celebrated the month of love and the famous Valentine’s Day, the queen of valentines Lerato Kganyago was mourning the loss of her unborn baby.
Many mzansi internet users were shocked when Lerato, whom they’ve nicknamed Valentine’s Day after, did not share this year’s Valentine’s Day surprises. Married to businessman Thami Ndala, Lerato’s Valentine’s Day surprises previously included a stadium booked with singer Zonke Dikana performing for her. She had also received a hotel situated in an upmarket area, north of Johannesburg, a Mercedes G-Wagon, and toured a few countries abroad before being serenaded by international superstar Kenny Latimore in an intimate private dinner in the US.
This is not the first time Lerato has lost an unborn baby. The last share was in 2021 after many people were speculating that she was pregnant.
Taking to her social media platform Instagram Stories, a heartbroken Lerato shared the devastating news of the loss of her unborn baby in five-story posts.
She first started by sharing a picture of a baby scan with a heart mark on it.
She went on to excuse her silence, adding that February was her happiest and later became a painful part of the month of love. She went on to thank her support system which includes her family, friends, bosses and colleagues, adding that she was strong and will never give up.
Detailing what many took as a confirmation of her loss, Lerato wrote:
“On the 12th is when my incredible gynae broke the news. I’m much better than last week, my parents have been next to me and have carried me! Thank you to those that have been checking on me.”
She also noted: “I was so hopeful.”
In true Lerato style, she associated herself with a phoenix, a fictional bird that has the ability to rise from the aftermath of fire from its ashes. The bird also symbolises rebirth and eternity.
She concluded her stories with sad words on how the month of love has treated her, commenting:
“Dear Feb, you’ve hurt me.”
