Award-winning deejay and producer Deep London announced that he will be taking legal action against Nigerian artist, Smada, after his song with Boohle – Hamba Wena – was allegedly ripped off.
Many internet users noticed the similarities between Hamba Wena (released in July 2022) and Smada’s latest smash hit, SMADA EH! (released on 27 October this year featuring Poco Lee, D3an, and SMEEZ).
Smada had even shared how the song allegedly came into fruition.

Once the word had reached Deep London (whose real name is Lita Kupelo), he took to Twitter (now known as X), saying, “Can you please at least respect South Africans,” while referring to a video Smada posted the day of the controversial song’s release.

X users were split down the middle, with some infuriated by the alleged copyright infringement and others taking Smada’s side.
Boohle simply wrote, “Smada what!!!!!??”

“This man is getting international gigs that Boohle and Deep London could’ve been getting,” commented one frustrated X user. “And this is why we were talking about gatekeeping Amapiano. That would include only South African artists would be allowed to perform or play Amapiano around any part of the world.”

A Smada fan replied to Deep London’s post: “You should be thanking him for making you and your sound popular. Hell, you should even pay him for his generosity.”

While another said that Smada’s song is not copyright infringement but creativity. “You all can’t take Amapiano beat anywhere, let Nigerians do the work for you.”
