Truth or arrogance? DJ Maphorisa made a bold statement saying that nobody in South Africa runs the music business the way he does.

The DJ (born Themba Sonnyboy Sekowe), known for hits such as Ba Straata, Midnight Starring and Emcimbini, took to Twitter to share his thoughts for the first time since he was embroiled in abuse allegations with rumoured partner, actress and DJ, Thuli Phongolo.

Maphorisa wrote, “Been producing music for 15yrs its ok to give other kids a chance. Nobody in SA runs music business the way I do, I talk big numbers.”

He continued, “I created a new business module that made aggregators to sell they companies to Major Labels. Universal Bought Electromode. Warner Bought Afrocori. Apple Bought Platoon. I shifted the market share, boss moves.”

In the tweet, the DJ is seen chilling with his feet up on the table while playing a video game. Behind him appears to be industry mate Kabza De Small working on music.

A few tweeps also referred to the DJ as a “gatekeeper” while another wrote, “Am I the only one that doesn’t see Porry writing this. Clearly proof read or ghostwriten. Is not make sure, I know his handwriting.”

However, there were some tweeps that praised Maphorisa for his work.

“And how are you going to put food on the table? Give others a chance only when you reach retirement age,” wrote a fan.
