Popular DJ Maphorisa has been granted a bail of R 4000 at court and the assault case against him has been postponed in the Randburg magistrate’s court on Monday.
The well-known amapiano DJ and producer was arrested on Sunday on a charge of allegedly assaulting his girlfriend Thuli Phongolo at an apartment in Sandton on that same day.
According to Timeslive report the National Prosecuting Authority spokesperson Phindi Mjonondwane, said that the DJ allegedly hit Thuli and strangled her after she confronted him about an incident that took place the night before where he was scheduled to perform.
“The complainant laid a charge with the Sandton police, who promptly arrested the accused,” Phindi said while speaking to the publication.
The spokesperson also said to the publication that the actress filed a withdrawal statement and she agreed for her boyfriend to be released on bail. The court set bail at R4,000.
According to Sunday World, Maphorisa got hold of Thuli’s neck and dragged her to the balcony of her flat on Sunday.
“I confronted him to talk about our argument, which happened the previous night during his gig. He held me and took me to the balcony, and grabbed me aggressively by my neck,” Thuli said in a statement.
Timeslive reported that the court case has been moved to June 14.
