News of the African National Congress’ attempt to stop singer Papa Penny whose real name is Eric Kulani Giyani Nkovani from performing at the Umkhonto Wesizwe’s people’s mandate hit social media platforms, creating a buzz on many platforms.
The Limpopo-born singer is set to perform at the MKP’s event which will be held at Soweto’s Orlando stadium on Saturday, 18th of this month.
After the singer’s performance poster started circulating, it also emerged that he had dumped the ANC, to join the newly formed MKP. Local news publication ZiMoja spoke with the artist who briefly said:
“Yes, I have joined MK, but I cannot speak to the media without getting a permission from my leadership.”
On the MKP’s social media platform X (former Twitter), the party shared conversation screen shots between the Ndzihere Bhi hitmaker and deputy president Paul Mashatile as well as one with the ANC Secretary General Fikile Mbalula.
In a message to Paul Mashatile, the singer said:
“I am leaving the ANC from Monday due to the treatment.”
The deputy president who is also the singer’s province mate responded, “No need to leave, I am sure we van resolve the problem. Will arrange to see you when back home.”
In another WhatsApp message, Fikile Mbalula told Papa Penny that he can’t go perform at former president Jacob Zuma’s MKP.
The singer responded informing that he had sent the message he was only replying to around 20h00 in the morning.
Fikile then told Papa Penny that he was busy before saying, “Don’t destroy yourself with one Zuma gig.”
We are delighted that a renowned artist, Pappa Penny will perform at the MK Party People’s Mandate, on 18 May 2024, at Orlando Stadium.
But the ANC of Ramaphosa, FIkile Mbalula & Paul Mashatile are trying to stop him. #ThePeoplesMandate #MKInOrlandoStadium
