Traditional healer and reality TV star Makgotso “Gogo Maweni” Makopo unsettled some of her social media followers when she shared a video clip of her latest podcast episode. In the podcast episode, the mother of three shared that those still paying bond on their properties should not be thanking the ancestors because the house still belongs to the bank.

Sitting with her husband, the traditional healer said that a house bought through a bond belongs to the bank and therefore, it is not yours. She also added that slaughtering of a goat or a cow is not necessary as the house is not fully yours and if not paid can be repossessed anytime.

“Now you’ve got a house, but you know you’re paying monthly instalments, you’re paying a bond. Don’t thank your ancestors for that, it’s not your house, they didn’t even bless you with that house, the bank did, the house belongs to the bank. Therefore, what are you slaughtering for?” said the mother of three.

She later shared a second post acknowledging she was aware that she angered a lot of people with her previous post. Maweni further explained herself, making reference to losing a job after paying the bond for many years saying that the bank would not hesitate to take away the house as it is not theirs anyways.

Social media users reacted to the mother of three boys’ post, many disagreed with her saying that qualifying for a job that allows you to take a bond is a blessing on its own.

They shared:

“Qualifying for a bond and being able to pay on a monthly basis is also a blessing. Not everyone qualifies for bond and not everyone will be blessed with a lump sum of money to buy a house or car cash.”

“I disagree Gogo!!! The fact that I have a well-paying job, which then makes me to be able to afford to qualify for a home loan, is a blessing on its own 👏🙌 hence, one should be grateful irrespective of who you believe in!! If it’s your ancestors, you should thank them, slaughter, asking them to give you the strength and power to continue paying for the house until it’s under your name or rightfully yours.”

“In that case, I shall slaughter in 2045. Since I am still renting, under the illusion of bond.”
