Legendary musician Dr Malinga is finding himself in a much better space following a 2022 dip when he faced big financial challenges.
Last year the talented musician found himself in hot water when he revealed that he owed the South African Revenue Services (SARS) over R2 million in tax. With a sum this big it was almost impossible for him to cough it up all on his own.
The taxman later repossessed many of his belongings which forced him to seek help from industry colleagues.
In an appearance on the Podcast & Chill, the singer found himself in a corner as he turned to friends and fans simultaneously to seek financial assistance.
As a result, several big musicians including Black Coffee and DJ Maphorisa answered the call. There was also assistance from fans who forked out R150 000, which was received with great appreciation.
In a recent appearance on B-Hive, he expressed his gratitude noting that he no longer owes the taxman a single cent, thanks to those who volunteered to support him.

In return, he now plans to launch a show that will give back to others in need.
“I cried and I got help. Whether you laughed or not, at the end of the day I got help. I have a show I will shoot next year called Khala Sigzize. I cried and people helped me with love. They gave me about R150,000.”
Meanwhile, EFF leader Julius Malema also came to his aid, by providing him with an accountant to assist in making better financial decisions – something he revealed he is eternally grateful for.
