Pretoria-born producer France Lebepe, known more commonly by his nickname Drum Pope has set his eyes on the Guinness world record for the most digital single releases by a music act in a year. To break this record, the musician would need to release approximately 1ooo songs within a year.
“I applied to compete with Guinness to challenge the record on 17 January. They told me that they would give me a year. The end date will be next year. In between those days, I should release 1000 songs.” the artist said. He further stated that he aims to release an additional 100 songs.
Having worked with heavy-weight artists such as Lady Zamar, Mzekezeke, Dj Sbu, Bucie, and Oskido, the musician believes that undertaking this massive project will officially cement his name globally in the book of legends. The artist took to his Instagram to call on anyone who would like to be part of his project with a post captioned “We calling out Artists, musicians, producers, graphic designers who are interested in working with Drumpopes on his mission to break the Guinness World Record for recording and releasing the most amount of songs in a year.”

He also revealed that there have already been fellow musicians who have stepped up and showed him support in various ways. Mafikizolo’s Theo Kgosinkwe as well as Dj Sbu have been among the artists that have encouraged Drum Pope to reach out whenever he needs any help. He also has access to a writing team that provides vocals as well.
One of the challenges highlighted by the artist is financing the entire project.“This project is big, and we need to be in the studio every day. The day-to-day costs—from studio time, engineering, travelling, food, and everything else are weighing heavily on us,” the artist told The Citizen. Fortunately, existing partnerships such as that with AMPD Studios and MTN will help lighten the load. “AMPD has sponsored world-class recording equipment to help me smash the record. They gave us monitors, top-quality recording microphones, headphones and a high- end audio interface,” Drum Pope told GQ.
