Some of YouTube’s biggest podcasters will soon make the television screens their new homes.
This comes as the local broadcaster Multichoice entered a partnership with local creatives to see them bring the deep, in-depth discussions they are often known for – to a new audience on television.
In a statement, the broadcaster announced that this collaboration marks a revolution in the world of South African entertainment.
These shows are set to feature on local channels Mzansi Magic and Mzansi Wethu, with shows expected to make their debut set to include podcasts like Podcast and Chill with Mac G, Against The Wall with Skeem GP, Awkward Dates with Lasizwe, Joseph Dary, People Need Comedy with Mpho Popps, Spreading Humours, Open Chats Podcast and Piano Pulse.
Speaking to the above-mentioned source M-Net’s local entertainment channels’ director Shirley Adonisi described the new venture as a “fearless leap into the future where linear television merges with the bold, unfiltered world of digital storytelling”.
She added: “These creators have reshaped entertainment, and now they’re bringing their energy to traditional TV. We’re thrilled to lead this transformation.”
In December Lasizwe celebrated reaching a whopping 1 million subscribers on YouTube. With the respective shows already doing well for themselves on digital platforms, the broadcaster believes that the new partnership will be beneficial for both podcasters as well as the DStv itself since a large majority of subscribers will now become DStv viewers.
