It seems American comedian Eddie Griffin’s jokes did not land for South Africans as expected at the Laugh Africa Comedy Festival.
Eddie Griffin was this year’s international act at the annual event which featured local acts such as Tumi Morake, Eugene Khoza, Sifiso Nene and many more at the Sandton Convention Centre in Johannesburg, where Eddie received a rather unpleasant reaction from internet users due to his performance.
Although Eddie is a well-known comedian in America, users felt that his jokes were not relatable in the South African context. Fans felt that he could have at least done more research about the country before performing at the festival.
Radio presenter and co-host of Podcast and Chill with MacG Sol Phenduka posed a question on X (previously known as Twitter) asking users if the performance was that bad.
Damn Was Eddie Griffin that bad ? #LaughAfrica

Such a disappointment! He drank-sang for us 😭and was busy pouring drinks on the floor for his dead friends 🥴and showing us clips off the internet of the president falling and some guys fighting ..people were walking out

Was there as well… Eish Sol… It was his American Set… Some jokes just couldn’t land… He should have been in SA since Last Friday to do his research….

He wasn’t bad, he was horrible. It was like a very awful karaoke night
