Money not only seems to be the root of controversial businessman Edwin Sodi’s problems but for his estranged wife Nthateng Matsoleli Lerata too. The soon-to-be former Sodi wife reportedly owes close to a whopping R50 million in personal taxes.
As per Sunday World, at the beginning of the month, the South African Revenue Service (SARS) obtained a summons against Nthateng at a Johannesburg high court. Papers seen by the above-mentioned publication state that Nthateng reportedly owes SARS R11.7 million in personal income tax and over R18.6 million in additional tax. Furthermore, the debt accrued more than R18.9 million in interest. Sunday World also reports that the taxman imposed over R2,000 in administrative penalties on Nthateng.
Before judgment was applied for, SARS sent the former Capricorn FM presenter a final letter of demand on 29 November 2023 and threatened to attach and sell her assets if she did not pay the full amount within 10 business days. There were also threats to sequestrate or liquidate Nthateng.
Sunday World shares that the letter read, “Overdue amount: R48 374 551, latest account statement balance. You are requested to make full payment within 10 business days from the day of this letter of demand.”
It is further reported that Nthateng was asked to apply for certain remedies within 10 business days from the date on which the letter was written to her.
According to Sunday World, Nthateng Matsoleli Lerata, who separated from Edwin Sodi a few years ago and is heading for divorce, owes Sars over R49.9-million in personal income tax. pic.twitter.com/iwEQekPwxD
