‘Umkhokha: The Curse’ actress Deli Malinga recently shared with her fans that she was nominated for the first African Female Actor Award at the Ladies of the Media Awards.
There’s just one problem. The awards ceremony takes place in Kenya, and Deli might not be able to attend unless a few good souls chip in to help pay for her travel expenses.
During an impassioned Facebook plea, the former Generations alumni shared the exciting news and then explained that although it was a great honour to be nominated, she needed sponsors to get to Kenya.
“What an honor being nominated for AFRICAN FEMALE ACTOR OF THE YEAR (not just South African but AFRICAN….I just see God in all of this,” wrote the 59-year-old actress.
After thanking everyone for their support, she added: “The sad part, to participate will be fully on me. Wish I could get sponsors going to Kenya,” and signed off with a link urging fans to vote for her.
Well wishers quickly landed in her comments section. “U acting skills it’s on the other level..there was no way that kind of talent the whole Africa won’t notice we love u zobisto,” wrote an admiring online user.
Another said: “You deserve it love, and we will miss your character coz you nailed it well in every aspect. Big for and salute.”
“Your talent is pure raw dear.. Pure natural.. You made me watch umkhokha for about 7 months.. Trust me, I am not a TV person… Then you took a back seat on many scenes you were not there.. .. .. That is how I stopped watching,” commented another big supporter.
And in graceful style, Deli responded to most of the comments and thanked them for their kind words.
