Following its recent success at the Royalty Soapie Awards, fans of the popular SABC 2 soapie 7de Laan have been calling for the two-decade-long programme to make a return to their TV screens.
The show recently won the Viewer’s Choice Most Popular Show award at the Royalty Soapie Awards.
Taking to social media, the production team thanked all their devoted viewers for the support shown throughout the years.
“We are incredibly humbled and honoured to have received the Viewer’s Choice Most Popular Show Award at the 7th Royal Soapie Awards 2024,” the statement read.
“If the power of your love and support alone could have saved 7de Laan, we have no doubt it would have. You’ve been an extraordinary part of our story, and we will cherish it forever.”
Last year the production team revealed that 7de Laan would be ending after the South African public broadcaster could not sustain large casts and production costs.
The long-running Safta award-winning show has been a vital part of South African culture for several years. This is due to its beautiful storylines that resonated with the South African viewers as we transitioned into a democracy and one that is inclusive of all cultures and beliefs.
With the show now winning yet another award, fans have once again expressed their desire to see their old favourite back on TV.
“We need the show back. We are even happy to re-watch it, just give us something,” one user wrote.
Another added: “You need to come back. Other shows have stopped production and have come back stronger. I believe that you can do that as well.”
