Secretary-General of the African National Congress (ANC) Fikile Mbalula had many social media users rolling their eyes after he insinuated that he was the reason for Springboks captain Siya Kolisi’s success.
Recently on X (formerly Twitter), a user of the app wrote that Springboks coach Rassie Erasmus’s arrival to the team deserved more recognition as he selected players based on their talent, not their skin colour.
Siya became the first black captain of the national rugby team in 2018 after being selected by Rassie.
Known for his ouspokenness, Fikile replied to the post, “It’s not Rassie who did away with quotas, it’s me because they were counter-productive. We entrenched the transformation charter, hence, you see Siya being the captain. But I understand your point and fully agree about your assertion about Rassie.”

Social media users were quick to humble the minister, who served as the Minister of Sport between 2010 and 2017.
You are like that guy who always wants to be the loudest in the room, not knowing the whole room despises you. 🚮🚮🚮

I think this is an even better example of that “There are two kinds of leaders” meme. Claiming credit where none is due. Rassie on the other hand, takes no credit. Doesn’t lift the trophy. Wheeps quietly. Gives others the credit. https://t.co/x6aWU50mLH
