Former Idols SA contestant Dinky Kunene, real name Dalene Schwartz is attempting to extricate herself from a binding contract with her label following allegations of unfulfilled promises and claims of sabotage that have hindered her success in her music career after a tumultuous partnership with major label Empire.

Dinky’s friend expressed to ZiMOJA that it seems the label signed her to hinder her success, as she has not released any music and is facing unexplained delays. The label promised her an advance for her music, which she had not received. The friend noted that Dinky had organised her life and projects around the agreement but now feels trapped, suggesting that the label is treating her as if they fully control her career.

She further told the mentioned publication that the label removed her vocals from two major songs and replaced them with other artists. Dinky is also restricted from recording with others, as the label reports any new releases.

In an interview on Kaya 959, Dinky shared that she has come a long way since her time on Idols SA, collaborating with artists like Josiah De Disciple, Mdu aka TRP and Kings of the Weekend (KOTW). During her appearance on the Ultimate Kaya 959 Top 30 with DJ Keyez, she opened up about her life, career and why she ran away from home.

Originally from Ennerdale in Johannesburg, Dinky spoke about her musical background, noting that her talent comes from her biological parents. Unfortunately, she never had the chance to know her father, who left when she was just a baby.

Despite these setbacks, Dinky is active in the industry as she is always booked.
