The newly released trailer for the highly anticipated ‘G20’ film featuring veteran American actress Viola Davis has caused quite a stir on social media as internet users question whether this could be a classic case of predictive programming as it reveals its take on the upcoming G20 Summit set to take place in Johannesburg.
All eyes continue to be on little old South Africa, including those of some of the most powerful hegemonic states in the world as we prepare to host the highly anticipated and highly controversial G20 Johannesburg Summit. This will mark the first time the summit is held on the African continent after previously taking place in countries such as Brazil, India, Italy and Saudi Arabia.
In an interesting turn of events, Prime Video dropped a jaw-dropping and eyebrow-raising trailer for their highly anticipated ‘G20’ film, where they give an interesting take on an alternate universe where the summit doesn’t necessarily go as planned, and as always the United States emerges as the hero who comes to save everyone.

Upon stumbling on this trailer, South African internet users have voiced concern over the questionable timing of this movie, considering the fact that American President Donald Trump has made it explicitly clear that he and his administration have no intentions of being at the summit, and has failed to commit to attending.
Furthermore, these users have labelled this move blatant propaganda and attempted to label African countries as unsafe to the rest of the world. These users question whether this is Hollywood’s attempt at predicting what they think will occur at the summit, with the continuous rise in tensions between various countries and their leaders, including South Africa, the United States and Palestine.
A scrumptious bit of propaganda, where the US no doubt saves the world (again), releasing a few months before the G20 presidency goes to America. THIS is what media scholars mean when they say Hollywood drums up consensus for US foreign policy. https://t.co/bkMpw3HnII

This is truly propaganda.
This year is the first time an African country is hosting the G20.
And now we’re getting a movie to say South Africa is not safe.
Coupled with all the other poppycock America has been saying about us.
And we know the CIA… *loses signal* https://t.co/ZQuN9foS5P— Jocelyn (@jossieu) February 12, 2025
Local actress Noxolo Dlamini starring in the film has been the silver lining in this controversial story, as Mzansi looks forward to seeing her represent them in the best way, as her talent in previous roles has proven that this role is well-deserved for the young actress.
Love the hype she’s been getting recently. Deserved 💐💐❤️
