We had the pleasure of conducting an exclusive interview with Gabriel Temudzani who plays Chief Azwindini Mukwevho.
The actor who has been with the show for 23yrs had his last episode aired last night where he was shot dead by Tenda (played by Nathaniel Ramabulane).
Speaking to BONA, Gabriel let us in on his journey playing Azwindini.
He commented that, even though there were “some uncomfortable moments”, portraying the character has been “a phenomenal experience.” He went on to say, “life is not always positive, there will be challenges, there will be hiccups, if you overcome them, you become a better person.”
The actor who has developed love for travel, also gave praise to the Muvhango producers for their support and patience, adding his appreciation for Muvhango cast members.
Asked if he ever thought the character would grow as big as it has, and if he anticipated the love South Africans from different parts of the country have for him. Gabriel said, he never imagined that the character would be received so well, adding that, “the reciprocatory love that people are showcasing only puts emphasis on that, when you do good, people will see it, and grade you accordingly.”
When asked what the character Azwindini has taught him. Gabriel responded, “It has taught me to be patient, it has taught me to balance things and analyse things accordingly, to say, don’t hear one story and run with it, get to hear both sides and make an informed decision.”
“It has taught me to remain rooted to who I am as a Venda person, and an African. It has taught me to appreciate the family more, because family is everything, and family is the foundation which we grow and develop from. It also taught me that, when all else fails you run to the family, and the family will always embrace you regardless of where you’ve been, and how bad or good you are.”
Gabriel added, “Muvhango will remain my home, and will always remain a remarkable encounter in my life.”
The globetrotter also added that through Muvhango, he got to gain a sister that he never had referring to his onscreen wife Maumela Mahuwa who plays Susan Mukwevho. He mentioned how throughout the years they’ve managed to form a strong bond that is rooted in appreciation and respect for each other.
Gabriel also cleared the rumour that they were married in real life. Adding that they posted a photo jokingly insinuating that they were married, and the media and public went with it.
The actor who acknowledged the SABC and Muvhango to always be his home, does not seem too keen to be back on our screens just yet.
We at BONA wish Gabriel the best on his future endeavours and hope to see him back on our screens soon. For now, Gabriel is set on traveling the world, being kind to humanity, and just living his BEST LIFE.
