Minister of Sports, Arts and Culture, Gayton McKenzie recently found himself on the ‘Mampara’ of the week slot in the news publication; TimesLive.
‘Mampara’ or ‘moemish’ are South African terms that refer to a foolish or clumsy person. The news publication accused the minister of running his department from his X (formerly Twitter) account.
According to the publication, this stems from when Gayton promised to reveal a list of artists who benefited unfairly from Public funds from his department. However, it turned out they were beneficiaries of a Covid relief programme that assisted artists who were out of work during lockdown.
The publication took to their X page to share their sentiments about the minister, captioning their post: “Gayton don’t baiza by running your department from your X account. The world doesn’t need another Donald Trump, writes Hogarth.”

Annoyed by this post, X users took to the comment section to weigh in on this matter.
So Times Live doesn’t want Gayton to openly speak about his work on alternative media, so they can have a monopoly on telling biased stories about ppl, to suit the agendas of their owners?!
You guys cannot be this retarded.
Honestly, it’s embarrassing. Do better.

Another one said:
Hates Gayton, hates Trump.
The more your write the more you reveal your bias. Every single headline is pathetic.
Why are you attacking Gayton for doing his job? Perhaps it will be exposed that you received money from previous administrations.

Gayton also took time to respond to this post:
I had 10 meetings yesterday, I arrive everyday at my office at 7am and leaves around 11am, I mention my work on social media because the media lies constantly abt me, I prefer to keep ppl up to date myself. Julle baiza, ek baiza nie btw, I love Donald Trump. Salute https://t.co/jK1OiknwGp pic.twitter.com/HjjuEDyK37
