If you are an avid TikTok user, you must have seen an energetic Springboks fan dancing to Mgarimbe’s Amabokoboko (Sister Bokkina) with intensity. The gentleman in question is Jeremy Du Plessis, who has gained many views, followers and likes for his enthusiasm.
Born in Vredenburg and later moving to Blue Downs, Cape Town, Jeremy is what one can describe as a Springboks superfan. The apple does not fall too far from the tree as Jeremy shared with BONA that his father (who passed away in 2010) was the biggest Springboks supporter he knew.
“I remember he used to walk many kilometres just to watch the Springboks play. I think this is where my interest in the Springboks started.” Jeremy adds, “I’m also big on supporting your country’s national sport.”
According to the Afrikaans magazine Kuier, Jeremy was contacted by SA Rugby’s marketing manager, Marlon Kruger, on TikTok who introduced him to the song a month before the Rugby World Cup tournament.
Jeremy tells BONA, “he asked me to listen to the song and see if I could maybe create something on the track. I got in my vehicle and turned the music on loud. The moment the track started, I immediately got goosebumps. The inspiration just kept flowing through my mind. I couldn’t wait to grab my team and show them.”
The assistant pharmacist then shot to fame after he posted a video of himself along with his team – friend Edwill Brink, his son Miguel (drummer seen in the video) and his nephew Jemeul (on the keyboard) – jamming to Mgarimbe’s Bok-inspired version of the classic Sister Bethina.

To top it all off, in 2022, Jeremy was surprised with a trip to Johannesburg by SA Rugby to watch a live Springboks vs All Blacks [New Zealand rugby team] game, with Springboks utility back Cheslin Kolbe. He adds, “I also met [Springboks players] Ox Nche and Steven Kitshoff. It was absolutely amazing meeting these guys. This is what dreams are made of!”

In preparation for the finals match between the Springboks and the All Blacks, Jeremy states that he will be performing his special dance routine in Cape Town as a build up to the game. “Just to bring the final injection of gees (spirit) to our beloved people.”
Jeremy also shared his message to the Springboks with BONA:
“My message to the Boks is just thank you! Thank you for what you are doing for our people. We see how you put your bodies, blood, and sweat on the line for us. Thus, I want you to know, although we could not be there in France to support you, know that we are with you in spirit. Go Bokke!”
