Veteran gospel singer Sipho Makhabane says he is grateful to be alive after a recent hijacking incident left him fearing for his life.
The singer recently spoke to entertainment publication ZiMoja explaining that he was on his way home from Mahikeng when suddenly a vehicle with blue lights stopped him in his tracks.
Sipho explained that the hijackers dressed themselves as police officers which led him to pull over as instructed.
It was only later that he realised that they were, in fact, criminals.
“The supposed officers stopped me and asked that I get out of the car before another group of men in another car came and forced me to get into the vehicle with blue lights.”
He says by then, he realised that he was deceived and began fearing for his life. He later told the publication that his life was spared simply because he decided to cooperate with the hijackers.
“They wanted my bank pin and for me to withdraw money from my account. They said I needed to increase my limit on my banking app, which I did and they took everything from my account and left me stranded. They kept me there for more than three hours so that they could get all the money from my account.”
Speaking to MDN News, he added: “I’m still traumatised and I’m still receiving medical attention. I also want to warn South Africans to be careful on the road because crime is just too high. These thugs are pretending to be police. After this incident, I don’t think I’ll be able to stop for a police vehicle.”
