One of mzansi’s favourite seasons has finally arrived: graduation season. A season dedicated to acknowledging and celebrating the students who put in the work to go up one more NQF level, and we are here to highlight some notable names who will be part of this year’s festivities.
Year in and year out, graduation season has become one of the more exciting times across various social media platforms in South Africa, as strangers unite to celebrate the hard work and dedication that students put in to pull of this massive achievement.
With great time management skills, as well as immense discipline, some of mzansi’s notable content creators have managed to not only provide quality entertainment to their followers, but also balanced the demanding nature of being a student, and are reaping the rewards, with a graduation ceremony.
Here are some popular TikTokers who have graduated this season:
Owethu Novuka
For many South African social media users, including Uncle Waffles, this felt a bit personal as they have followed Owethu, who is also known by her surname, throughout her entire university experience. Novuka rose as a fan favourite due to her raw and honest rants regarding her battles with academics and generally navigating university life. She has built herself a community of loyal subscribers who would tell you the ins and outs of her life at the University of Cape Town (UCT).
Novuka has consistently been open and honest about the challenges and difficulties of her degree, and graduated as the only black woman in the Bachelor of Science, specialising in Computer Science course.

Ntokozo Mahlinza
Conversely to Novuka, who has shared almost every part of her journey to her graduation, popular comedic content creator Ntokozo Mahlinza opted to keep her cards closer to her chest, and surprise her audience with an unexpected announcement. Not only did the effortlessly funny youngster reveal that she conquered the Wits edge, and will be joining those who will be walking the stage to officially secure their qualification, she revealed that this will be her second belt that she is fetching, making the accomplishment all the more impressive.
As expected, Ntokoko’s followers can’t help but feel blindsided by the content creator, and have jokingly voiced frustrationover being deceived by her. These users reveal that they thought they were all in the same boat, as Ntokozo’s content is mostly shot inside the comfort of her bedroom, leading most to believe that that is what she spends most of her time doing.

Thulane Gwebu
Tsakane was never ready for the powerhouse that Thulane Gwebu, and with this qualification under his belt, there is doubt that his hometown will never see him again. Those who have followed Thulane for a while are aware of his personal feelings towards Tsakane, his home town, and how badly he has been wanting to ‘make it out of the hood’ as the youth says.
Thualane’s content focuses on comedy, as well as relatable everyday experiences, which often incorporate a humurous element as well. His relatability has taken him to quite some heights as a content creator, and as he is pursuing his second qualification at UCT, we are certain he will be making it to next year’s edition of the list once more.
