While the rest of the country found itself embracing the festivities of the Easter weekend, Springbok winger Cheslin Kolbe kicked off his long weekend with a bang.
The hot-stepper known for his rapid speed and explosive rugby abilities met up with one of the world’s biggest musical entertainers and the CEO of the sports management agency Roc Nation Sports, Jay-Z.
The music mogul flew to the place where Cheslin recently started playing rugby – Japan.
Taking to his Instagram page, the father of three wrote: “Special moment meeting Jay-Z and Jay Brown in Tokyo tonight. Incredible experience being part of the Roc Nation family.”

The two-time World Cup winner has been with the highly-esteemed sports agency for nearly four years, after first announcing his decision to join in July 2020 – a few months after winning his first World Cup.

Speaking to SA Rugby Magazine about the motivation behind his decision to join, he said:
“It’s to improve the lives of people, especially those of athletes who often earn a lot of money at a very young age and then have no one, or not the right people, to guide them and help them invest in the future.”
He further added: “Roc Nation is really there to create a context of success for the sportsman and his family.”
Since then, the group has taken his career to new heights. Other well-known sportsmen who have also signed to the agency include the Springbok captain Siya Kolisi, Sbu Nkosi, retired player Tendai “The Beast” Mtawarira as well as the Lions player Jordan Hendrikse.
Meanwhile, since sharing a picture of his latest meeting with Jay-Z, those in the post’s comment section had mixed reactions when it came to Cheslin and Jay-Z being together.
Among the first to enter the comments was a fellow Springbok and former teammate at the Stormers, Eben Etzebeth, who sarcastically pointed out the rapper’s lack of enthusiasm, writing: “Hy lyk vriendelik (He seems friendly).”
Similarly, another user shared Eben’s opinion on Jay-Z, writing: “I can’t be the only one who thinks Jay-Z is acting snobbish, like at least smile or hold the jersey. Act like you are standing next to a two-time world champion.”
Meanwhile, others praised the Springbok for coming so far in his career that it led to rubbing shoulders with Jay-Z.
“Jay-Z better act like he’s standing next to a legend,” one user wrote.
Another added: “He should know it’s an honour to be standing in the presence of a Springbok!”
Since winning the prestigious trophy back-to-back, the 30-year-old has since relocated from his former club in Toulon to play for the Japanese side, Suntory Sungoliath.
