An X war, (formerly known as Twitter war) erupted between two music legends Prince Kaybee and DJ Maphorisa over a live recording where DJ Maphorisa shared that he takes ownership of the masters created in his studio.
Going live on his Instagram, DJ Maphorisa also known as Madumana shared that artists can’t rock up to his studio to make songs and think they will own the masters when the computer, electricity and food on top of that is his.
“When you record music on my computer, my studio, with my electricity. That sh*t is mine. It belongs to me.”
He added:
“You must understand when you work in someone’s studio, that sh*t is not yours. Go buy your studio, buy plug-ins, FruityLoops, a microphone and whatever, then make music and release it. Then those will be your masters.”
Upon hearing that, Prince Kaybee responded saying that making music was about working together collectively, adding that giving a platform for a person to make music and supplying them with food doesn’t mean one should claim their work.
Madumane came back with a clap back saying he will not entertain Prince Kaybee as he is showing signs of mental illness. He also shared that the Gugulethu hitmaker was desperate for attention calling him a porn star who leaked his sex tape and shown his private part to the public. This was in reference to a picture that was leaked on social media of a naked Prince Kaybee as well as a sex video with influencer and deejay Cyan Boujie.
Responding to the porn star comment, Prince Kaybee shared that he wasn’t shocked that the Izolo hitmaker brought it up, stating that he can use the woman abuser allegations that were labeled against him.
“I did see the porn star narrative coming, an unfortunate time in my life where someone showed the world my private parts, but I can also use the allegations of you hitting a woman but that’s not the argument. There’s lack of moral commitment to artists generally from a basic human.”
